Visit Nepal Year (VNY) 2020 program confronts a force majeure situation as the outbreak of the novel Corona virus epidemic calls for a public global health emergency.
“Stopping the spread of this virus both in China and globally is WHO’s highest priority,” said Dr. Tedros In a recent WHO mission to China, “We appreciate the seriousness with which China is taking this outbreak, especially the commitment from top leadership, and the transparency they have demonstrated, including sharing data and genetic sequence of the virus. WHO is working closely with the government on measures to understand the virus and limit transmission. WHO will keep working side-by-side with China and all other countries to protect health and keep people safe. (WHO Newsroom 28 January 2020)”
While China mobilizes her massive strength and resources towards containing the epidemic, she and the international research agencies are concentrating to develop vaccines to remedy the virus. Hope the containment endeavors of the outbreak and development of the vaccines will yield results sooner than later.
In order to deliberate on the impact of the epidemic, and ways and means to address the impact, VNY is organizing an interaction at Park Village, Kathmandu, tomorrow 7th feb 2020. Post the historic visit of the Chinese President to Nepal in October last, Nepalese tourism had expected half a million Chinese tourist arrivals in 2020. This would have a major contributor towards the attainment of the VNY goals of 2 million arrivals. A cross section of the Nepalese tourism and aviation is expected to take part in the interaction. A strategic re navigation is critical at this moment.
