KATHMANDU: Tourism Minister Yogesh Bhattarai on Wednesday requested ambassadors of 31 different countries to coordinate with the Nepal to make Visit Nepal 2020 a successful campaign.
Bhattarai requested the ambassadors to promote Nepal in their respective countries and help Nepal to achieve its ambitious target of welcoming 2 million tourists in 2020.
The government is planning to launch the campaign on January 1.
Bhattarai said that tourism sector accounts 3 percent to the country’s gross domestic product. And the government has targeted to increase its contribution to 10 percent.
Likewise, the current per day tourist spending is $44 and the government has aimed to raise the amount to $80, he told the ambassadors.
The minister also informed ambassadors about the government’s special packages for the airline companies to operate flights from Gautam Buddha International Airport once it is opened.
