The Government of Nepal has decided to discontinue regular flights within the country and to/from Nepal. The decision comes into force from mid-night 03 May 2021 for domestic flights and from mid-night 06 May 2021 for international flights. Under an Indo-Nepal air bubble agreement, however, there will be one flight per week between Kathmandu and Delhi from either side. Air operators may operate cargo flights and rescue flights upon permission of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The second wave of Covid-19 has recently spread in Nepal like forest fire, mainly hitting the Kathmandu Valley, the political, cultural and financial capital of the country. In an effort to battle the situation, the government has taken various measures including the discontinuation of flights. Prohibitory orders have been issued by district administrations in various districts in an attempt to break the cycle of transmission.
