KATHMANDU: Stakeholders from the country’s tourism industry fraternity have recommended the Visit Nepal Year 2020 secretariat to encourage travel trade entrepreneurs to introduce unique packages and products that could prompt tourists to spend more and stay long.
They urged the secretariat to go beyond the regular destinations.
Ambica Shrestha, chairperson of Dwarika’s Hotel and Resort, that Nepal’s tourism policies and programmes are more focused on number of tourists than making them spend more. “It is key time to go beyond old destinations and bring new products.”
Jungle safari tourism, meditation and yoga are some products yet to be promoted as tourism products in our country, she said.
Ang Tshering Sherpa, former president of Nepal Mountaineering Association, suggested the secretariat to work on promoting mountains for climbing and trekking. Some stakeholders have recommended promoting Nepal as a shopping destination as well as for sports tourism.
Tourism Secretary Mohan Krishna Sapkota said that the government would address the suggestions of the private sector to make the visit Nepal year campaign successful. He further said that the major objective of this campaign is to generating jobs and assuring tourist safety.
