KATHMANDU: Kami Rita Sherpa, who scripted history on the top of the world on Wednesday morning by scaling Mount Everest for a 23rd time, breaking his own previous world record, is set to start another ascent on Saturday.

If achieved, the 49-year-old will be one short of his goal of reaching the top of the world 25 times.

Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita’s expedition company, confirmed his next expedition.

“We will inform the Department of Tourism on Friday regarding Kami Rita’s second ascent this season,” Mingma said.

“Kami Rita will leave Everest Base Camp on Saturday (May 18),” said Mingma. “He will probably begin the Everest push on May 23.”
